So the other day I picked up a contour kit I bought a few years ago and decided to read the ingredients on it. I don't know why I randomly did this but I've been using it for a while and I was so upset to see that it was full of parabens and other yucky ingredients.

Since becoming vegan I have been more aware of what I put into my body and also what I put on my skin. You may not realize that whatever we put on our skin is absorbed and enters into our bodies. It definitely wasn't something that I used to think about.

With every cosmetic item I purchase (makeup, skincare, shampoo/conditioner) I make sure that it does not contain any of these toxic ingredients:

I was so sad to find these nasty things in my Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit. Parabens are found in a lot of products because they are a cheap preservative. When they enter our bloodstream they mimic estrogen and you don't want to be messing with your hormones. It can also affect mens reproductive systems. You can see them on your ingredients list as anything that ends in "paraben". For example: Methylparaben or Propylparaben.

I feel like the price of products should reflect the quality of the product. That's why it surprises me when I see "high end" companies using cheap and harmful ingredients. There is a lot of controversy about these ingredients but mineral oil is a byproduct of turning petroleum into gasoline and I don't see how anything that comes from that process could be good for your body. It is listed as "mineral oil" on the ingredient list.

This is similar to mineral oil but this version comes from the process of drilling oil. A lot of people know it as petroleum jelly. It is usually listed on ingredient lists as "petrolatum".

Parfum is the fragrance that is usually added to products. It's usually just a bunch of chemicals mixed together and doesn't do anything good for you. They are usually irritating to the body and can also cause migraines, asthma, trigger allergies, and much more. It is listed as "parfum" on the ingredients list.

There is this really gross thing in the world called "animal rendering". Which essentially means the animal parts that can't be used are boiled down and then used as fillers in our products. I personally think that it's pretty gross and to avoid this just make sure that your product is certified vegan and cruelty free!

There are definitely a lot more ingredients to be avoided but these are the ones I always look for. I hope that this post was helpful to you! I love staying educated and educating others! If you liked/didn't like the post please leave a comment below!
