5 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT YOUR BRA

Okay, ladies, you might be thinking "what don't I know about my bra? I've been wearing them for so many years. I've got this sh*t figured out". Well, apparently almost 80% of women wear the wrong size bra. I was getting really frustrated with certain things, like spending almost $100 on a bra and having it last less than a year or my bra straps constantly falling down. I decided to do some more research and also get some advice from some bra-making friends.

Hopefully, you can learn from my mistakes and struggles and find one of these tips helpful. So here it is, 5 Things You Don't Know About Your Bra (but really should):

1. YOUR BRA NEEDS A BREAK

Your bra works hard for you all day and it needs some time to rest and recharge. Our bras are constantly being stretched and pulled in all directions during the day so we have to give them at least 24 hours to rest before wearing them again. If you do this then your bra can get back in shape and last longer instead of being constantly pulled and stretched out all day every day.

2. THERE'S A WAY TO STOP YOUR STRAPS FROM SLIDING DOWN

I don't know if there is anything worse than a bra strap that is constantly sliding down. It drives me crazy. It always happens to me because my shoulders slope down. If this happens to you for whatever reason you NEED to buy a u-shaped bra. That just means the shape in the back forms a U. Look at the difference between the bra on the left (u-shaped) and the bra on the right (typical bra).

3. YOU might be trying them on wrong

When trying on bras make sure that it fits you best on the first hooks. This is where the bra band is at its widest, that way when your bra starts to stretch over time (because it will) you can use the next clasp in to keep your girls supported. You should also try on your bras using the scoop and swoop method!

4. YOU NEED TO WASH YOUR BRA

Yes hunny. You need to wash your bra. And I don't mean just once every few months. The amount you wash your bra will obviously depend on how much you wear it . But typically you should be trying to wash it each week! If you're scared to put your bra in the laundry you can buy a lingerie garment bag to protect your bras from being ruined. They are super affordable, I like these.

5. YOUR BRA ISN'T SUPPOSED TO LAST THAT LONG...

Unfortunately, your bra isn't supposed to last more than a year...it's actually more like 6-9 months. But if you think about it, they do a lot of work. The more bras you have to rotate the longer they will last. Try to buy better quality bras too, they cost a little bit more but will last quite a bit longer.

My favourite brand right now is Year of the Ram, they are made in Calgary with locally sourced materials and they are absolutely gorgeous! I've also loved Natori, but I am trying to find more ethical and sustainable options. I've found this website to be a great resource for what I'm looking for.
